ASEP Energy Symposium 2023

The Australian Society of Energy and Power (ASEP Australia) is organizing the First Symposium on Energy (ASEP Energy Symposium 2023) on December 14, 2023. The symposium will be held both online and in person at Building 56 (Ronald R MacKay Building) - RMIT University, located at 115 Queensberry St, Carlton VIC 3053, Australia.

The symposium will feature keynote speakers who will present their research and undergraduate and postgraduate students from various universities who will provide updates on their research.

Keynote Speakers

Prof Xingjun Hu

Jilin University (China)

Lecture Title: Multidisciplinary Research Topics in Automotive Aerodynamics at Jilin University

About the Speaker:

Dr Xingjun Hu is the Vice Dean of the College of Automotive Engineering, a doctoral supervisor, director of the Institute of Automotive Aerodynamics, and the head of the Wind Tunnel Center at Jilin University in China. He has conducted extensive research on the aerodynamics of various vehicle products, including traditional vehicles, new energy vehicles, intelligent network automobiles, and vehicle thermal-fluid-acoustic-solid multi-field coupling. He has participated in over 60 related vertical topics and product development projects, published more than 140 academic papers, applied for more than 110 patents, and won the first prize in the third Central Enterprise Yixing Innovation and Creativity Competition in 2021.

Prof Yingai Jin

Jilin University (China)

Lecture Title: Advances and Prospects of Thermal Management Technologies for Electric Vehicles

About the Speaker:

Dr Yingai Jin is a professor/doctoral supervisor at the College of Automotive Engineering, Jilin University, China. Yingai Jin studied at the Dalian University of Technology and Jilin University. She completed her Ph.D. in Power Engineering & Engineering Thermal Physics at Jilin University in 2009. She worked at Jilin Chemical Industry Corporation (Power Station) from 1989 to 1993 and joined Jilin University in 1996. She worked as a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Waterloo (Canada) in 2018. Her research covers a wide range of areas of energy utilization. She received the First Prize of National Teaching Achievement from the National Education Ministry in 2001 and over 10 provincial Teaching Achievement Awards. Prof. Yingai Jin has carried out a UK-China Industry Partnership Program (Newton Fund) from the Royal Academy of Engineering (UK) and other National and enterprise cooperation projects. She has 125 publications (including journal articles and peer-reviewed conference papers) and 20 patents.

Dr Nikolai Kinaev

CSIRO (Australia)

Lecture Title: Hydrogen Energy Technologies and Their Future Perspectives

About the Speaker:

Dr Nikolai Kinaev leads the Hydrogen Energy Systems Future Science Platform at CSIRO Australia. Prior to this position, he worked as an industry analyst and information gathering and analysis specialist with a diverse professional background across Europe, the US, and Australia. Nikolai has been recognized by the professional community for his ability to identify emerging trends early, both globally and regionally. He is an expert in various industry-related fields, with a deep understanding of techno-economical issues, actual project costs, and technology deployment timelines. With 30 years of experience in research and industry, Nikolai possesses a unique understanding of research and industrial activities and approaches in various areas.

Prof Quamrul Alam

Central Queensland University (Australia)

Lecture Title: Australia-South Asia Energy Collaboration: A New Paradigm of Geopolitical Partnership

About the Speaker:

Professor Quamrul Alam is a renowned expert in International Business and Strategy. He holds a professorship at Central Queensland University in Melbourne, Australia. Before this position, he also worked at various other prestigious universities, including Monash University for 16 years, La Trobe University for 7 years, and Victoria University of Australia for 3 years. With a solid academic background in both teaching and research, he has contributed significantly to the field. His impressive record includes over 60 published journal articles, over 100 presented conference papers, six books, 21 book chapters, and numerous international conference chairmanships. Additionally, he has supervised more than 20 PhD research students and organised various training programs for public sector leadership. Prof. Quamrul Alam led the GPFD program funded by DFAT. Over 3 years, 90 officials attended capacity development programs in Australia. He co-edited a book on the political economy of Bangladesh, published by Routledge in 2023.

Dr Nawshad Haque

CSIRO (Australia)

Lecture Title: Carbon Footprint of Hydrogen Energy System

About the Speaker:

Dr Nawshad Haque is a Principal Research Scientist at CSIRO in Australia, leading the Techno-economics for Decarbonisation Team and Hydrogen Energy Research. With over 21 years of experience and a PhD in Chemical Engineering, he has driven several large-scale international research projects. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Energy and the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and has supervised 14 PhD projects and 56 undergraduate research projects under his leadership. Dr Haque is also an adjunct academic at Swinburne, Monash, and RMIT Universities in Australia. He has initiated numerous international collaborative research relationships and leads the "India-Australia Minerals Scholar Network" to develop scientific research capability. Dr Haque's mission is to utilise science for development and diplomacy.

Dr Harun Chowdhury

Lecture Title: Energy-Efficient Biomimicry Road Vehicles

About the Speaker:

Dr Chowdhury is a renowned expert in the field of aerodynamics, with a focus on various areas such as road vehicles, trains, wind turbines, turbomachinery, buildings, and sports. He is also well-versed in conventional and renewable energy, engineering education, curriculum design, quality assurance, and accreditation. With over 20 years of academic and research experience, he has worked as an experimental aerodynamicist and a mechanical system design engineer. Additionally, he is the co-founder and Vice-President of the Australian Society of Energy & Power (ASEP) and has a proven track record of organizing several international conferences. He has supervised countless research/project students in various Australian universities and has published over 170 books, book chapters, journal articles, and peer-reviewed conference papers. His h-index is 30, and he has received over 3100 citations for his work.
